Essential Information and Student Handbook

QMU Student Smartcards

All campus based students are required to have and use a QMU Student Smartcard. As well as being evidence of your study at QMU, smartcards also allow students to access areas of the university exclusive to their course, along with printing and photocopying at the swipe of a card.

With QMU's move towards a cashless campus, Smartcards can also be loaded with funds to use around the University. Parking permits will also be held in the card and allow easy access and departure from QMU's green campus. Additionally, attendance at learning and teaching events is monitored using Student Smartcards.

Getting your QMU Student Smartcard
New students can get their card at Smartcard Collection during their Induction Programme. If you don't have a scheduled Smartcard Collection component, then you can have one produced for you at the Student Services Reception desk. Registry staff will take your photo, so there is no need to bring a photo with you, although you will be asked to show photographic ID to prove your identity.

If you are a student studying by Distance Learning you can request a smartcard once you have matriculated. Email registry@qmu.ac.uk from your QMU Student email account, along with two attachments.

  1. A scan of official form of identification such as passport or driver’s license.
  2. The passport style photo of yourself you want to appear on your card.

Registry staff will then process the request and within 2 weeks post your card to the home address you confirmed during matriculation. If you would like it sent to a different address, please confirm this in the email.

Lost, Damaged or Stolen Smartcards
There is a £10 fee to replace a lost, damaged or stolen QMU Student Smartcard unless you are able to provide us with the Police Incident Number you were given when you reported the theft.

Visit the Student Services Reception desk or email registry@qmu.ac.uk from your QMU Student email account for a replacement.
